If you need immediate cleaning help for stains on your furniture, try these tips:

Note: Before applying any of these specific remedies, ALWAYS test a spot in a hidden area (such as the underside of a cushion) FIRST.

Endurosuede

Wood

Leather

Endurosuede: (for invoices with code "CA-GWEND" Enduro Suede Protection)

For household spills and stains:

• Mix 1 ounce of Enduro Suede cleaning solution with 8 ounces warm water 
• Apply to the stain with a sponge or cloth. The fabric can be scrubbed thoroughly. 
• After scrubbing the stain itself, wipe down the ENTIRE section of the furniture (for example, the entire seat cushion or arm) from seam-to-seam. Scrub evenly over the fabric left-to-right and front-to-back, then let dry. This will eliminate outline rings or watermarks left behind by spot cleaning.

For Chewing Gum:

• Freeze the spot with an ice cube or canned air
• Hit with a hard, blunt object
• Vacuum up chips
• Follow the steps above for Household Spills and Stains

Although the following items (ink, odors, and wax) are not covered by the warranty, here are a few tips (or check online for more ideas) that might help. As these remedies are at your own risk, a TEST SPOT is always recommended.

For odors:

Some quick home remedies can help reduce and eliminate odors from fabric and cushions

Baking Soda

• When furniture is dry, sprinkle some baking soda on the area
• Rub baking soda in a bit
• Cover with a towel and let sit for a few hours
• Brush baking soda off

White Vinegar

• Mix a solution of 1 part white vinegar with 3 parts water
• Apply liberally with a sponge and allow it to soak into the cushion

The vinegar smell will dissipate as it dries and evaporates.

For Ink:

• Apply rubbing alcohol to the ink stain and blot, working from the outside of the spot toward the middle to avoid spreading the stain
• After the ink is mostly gone, follow the steps above for Household Spills and Stains

For Wax:

Follow instructions above for chewing gum.

Wood

Watermarks or Cup Rings

• Apply the Oak Express Bedroom Expressions Furniture Polish
• Allow to sit for only a minute or two
• Gently buff the furniture in the direction of the grain
• Repeat a couple of times to help restore shine to the wood finish

Watermarks and cup rings can be caused by dehydration of the wood. To re-moisturize, try these home remedies:

Mayonnaise:

• Apply a coat of mayonnaise over the stain
• Let sit for several hours
• Wipe off with a clean, dry cloth
• Polish the furniture with the Oak Express Bedroom Expressions Furniture Polish following the steps above

Salt and Cooking Oil:

• Make a paste of salt and cooking oil
• Apply to spot
• Allow to sit 10-15 minutes
• Wipe off with a clean, dry cloth
• Polish the furniture with the Oak Express Bedroom Expressions Furniture Polish following the steps above

Toothpaste:

• Rub a small amount of toothpaste into the mark with a damp cloth in the direction of the grain
• Wipe off immediately with a dry cloth

Leather (for invoices with the code "CA-GWLEA" Leather Protection)

How to Use the Leather Care Kit

Leather Protectant:

The Leather Protectant must be applied within 24 hours of receiving the furniture to activate the warranty. 

• Apply the Sofa Mart Leather Protectant to a clean cloth or sponge
• Gently rub into the leather
• Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes
• Gently wipe any excess Leather Protectant off with a clean, damp cloth
• Leather may temporarily darken

It is not necessary to re-apply the Leather Protectant and it should NEVER be applied over dirty or stained furniture, as doing so may seal stains IN.

Leather Conditioner:

Use the Leather Conditioner to moisturize and condition leathers to help prevent drying.

• Apply Sofa Mart Leather Conditioner to a clean cloth
• Gently rub it into the leather
• Leather will temporarily darken

If you notice a white residue after the furniture dries, it is possible too much conditioner was applied or it was left on too long before it was rubbed in. To remedy:

• Wipe leather with a soft cloth and warm water
• If needed, add a splash of the Leather Cleaner to the water and gently wipe the residue

To avoid white residue in the future, try applying a smaller amount or treat smaller areas of the furniture at a time so the Leather Conditioner can be rubbed in before it dries.

Leather Cleaner:

Use the Leather Cleaner to remove general soiling and water based stains.

• DILUTE 1 ounce of Sofa Mart Leather Cleaner to 8 ounces of warm water
• Using a clean cloth or sponge, gently wipe the affected area

Stains on Leather (including urine)

When a stain is new, you can "flush" the stain out of the leather by applying clean water to dilute the stain:

• Wipe the whole area evenly and gently with water to avoid spotting or watermarks

Water will not hurt the leather, especially if you apply it uniformly.
